TVS Motor Company has launched 125cc scooter Ntorq 125, which the company describes as the first-ever app-enabled performance scooter in the country.Targeted at youth segment, Ntorq 125, which marks the company’s entry into the 125cc scooter segment, comes with an ex-showroom (New Delhi) price of ₹58,750.
Coming to looks and design, TVS tells this is a stealth aircraft inspired scooter. Up front, there is a halogen headlight with LED DRL being mounted on the apron while the indicators are mounted on the handlebar. The front side panels get ‘125’ decals and the scooter gets a dual-tone color theme. The rear end is the where the scooter looks distinctive. The T-shaped LED tail-light, faux carbon fiber finishing on the panels and the stubby muffler give it some attitude.
Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and gas-filled hydraulic spring shock absorber at the rear. A 220 mm petal disc up front (segment-first) and a drum brake at the rear take care of Anchorage. The 12-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are shod with a 100-section tire at the front and 110-section rubber at the rear. This TVS scooter comes feature loaded. There is a fully digital instrument cluster with a gaming console inspired speedometer and Bluetooth pairing. It gets a low battery indicator, service reminder, engine oil temperature, average speed, Navigation Assist, incoming call alert, incoming SMS alert, Last Parked Location Assist, Exclusive Rider’s App.
Other highlights of the NTORQ 125 are Batwing Styled LED DRL, split grab rails, double-stitched Hysteresis seat, patented EZ Centre stand, handlebar weights, engine kill switch (segment-first) and pass by switch.
The new model is expected to further strengthen TVS Motor’s position in the scooter segment and help boost its market share. The other major players in the 125cc scooter category are Honda (Grazia) and Suzuki (Access)
“There is a segment that is emerging stronger – young India. The size of the opportunity is about 10 % of the market now. This new scooter has been designed keeping them in mind,” said Aniruddha Haldar, Vice-President (Marketing) – Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters, and Corporate Brand, at the launch here.
Powered by CVTi-REVV 3-valve engine, Ntorq 125 has been developed on a new platform and comes with TVS SmartXonnect, a Bluetooth-enabled technology which is paired to an exclusive Ntorq mobile app that can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
TVS SmartXonnect comprises digital speedometer, which offers about 55 features including navigation assist, top speed recorder, in-built lap-timer, phone-battery strength display, last parked location assist, service reminder, trip meter and multi-ride statistic modes such as Street and Sport. KN Radhakrishnan, President and Chief Executive Officer, said the company was targeting to sell about two lakh units of the new scooter as it believed that Ntorq’s aspirational design and features would attract young buyers.
The company has spent about ₹100 crore in developing the Ntorq 125 and creating capacity at the plant.TVS Motor Company had a market share of 16% in the scooters segment during the nine-month period of this fiscal, up from 14% in a year-ago period. It is the second big player in the scooter market after Honda.
